With some tissue paper, cardboard, and glue, a simple shoe box becomes a teddy bear sized train engine for our son’s pre-school parade. One particular detail that we were proud of was the engine headlight. Using a small flashlight inside of a larger clear spice container, we were able to to make it feel like a headlight.

Dollhouse Furniture From Found Objects Part 2
We’ve added some more found object dollhouse furniture to our collection. We found some strange Ikea hardware that looked like modern miniature couches. We attached some nails with our favorite super strong craft glue E-6000, and we ended up with some cool mid-century modern looking couches and chairs to go with our other homemade pieces. If you use nails though, I suggest filing down the tips, so your little ones don’t step on them.
DIY Red Carpet Stanchions
We recently put on a red carpet event, and instead of buying or renting those fancy stanchions and ropes, we decided to make our own. The poles are made out of PVC pipe with 3 layered wood bases and spray painted gold. The ropes are made out of pipe insulators covered with red velvet sleeves that Faith made. We used eye bolts and fasteners to connect the ropes to the poles. They were a lot of fun to make and looked great. We got the basic plans from crackerjacktheater.com, and then made it our own. Cracker Jack Theater has lots of other fun DIY projects like this, so check them out.
